Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) today announced the appointment of racing legend Allan Moffat as its official Ambassador.
Moffat will represent FPV at major events and in some exciting new programs throughout 2010, as Ford's performance arm steps up its activities in the new decade.
The four-time Bathurst winner has a long history with the Ford brand, which started in the late '60s as a factory team driver and culminated with the famous 1-2 Falcon hardtop team victory with Colin Bond at Mt Panorama in 1977.
"I am delighted to welcome Allan Moffat to our team," FPV General Manager Rod Barrett says.
"Allan brings with him an unrivalled Ford heritage and enormous credibility with the history of performance Fords in Australia, and that has an obvious connect with our brand and our customers."
"But more than that, Allan has a real feel for 'performance cars' and what performance enthusiasts value, and that adds further to his role as FPV's roving Ambassador."
Allan Moffat's record has made him a motor racing icon in Australia.
Along with four Bathurst victories, he won the Sandown endurance race six times, was Australian Touring Car Champion four times, and won both the Australian Sports Sedan and Sports Car Championship titles.
Overseas Moffat won the Sebring 12 Hours in Florida, was Sports Car Club of America Central Division Champion, and was victorious in 500 kilometre races at Fuji (Japan), Monza (Italy) and Wellington (New Zealand).
He also took class honours in each of the international 24 hour races at Le Mans (France), Daytona (America) and Spa (Belgium).
Allan's son James also has a strong Ford connection, racing a Falcon in the 2010 V8 Supercar Development Series.
"Ford is such a big part of my history, it is fantastic to be joining FPV in 2010," Allan Moffat says.
"FPV's products are fabulous … our racing cars didn't perform or handle as well as these cars do … so I am proud to represent FPV in Australia, and look forward to working with Rod and his team."

Well it is 2010, 40 years since a HO won its first Bathurst and 2011 will also be the 40th anniversary of the Phase 3 winning at Bathurst...make of that what you will
Could FPV be gearing up for the HO's return? That would be nice.

Slightly off topic, but you do realise that both CL and JW started their V8SC careers in Crumbledores. Oh, and DJ drove a Torana before he drove a Falcon. Besides that, Ford didn't bother renewing their contract with CL so he was free to go anywhere, unlike when he moved to Ford where he still had some years to go on his TWR contract. “We reviewed agencies to optimize what we believe will be the most important model launches in our history," FPV general manager Rod Barrett said.
"In that review process Wilson Everard demonstrated not only the creativity we were looking for but an understanding and a passion for our brand that was quite extraordinary.”
Four time Bathurst winner and Ford legend Allan Moffat has also been signed as FPV’s brand ambassador.
"most important model launches in our history" says Barrett two days after appointing Moffat. It's good news that FPV have started to care enough about their advertising to get professionals to do it, but is there a clue in that comment or is it just meaningless rhetoric?

Not holding breath but yes does look promising that ford and FPV care about the sales by looking at the root of it all... by telling the punters what product they actually sell, having Moffet and some tip top ad firm running the show is a start.
Bring back the ads like the original GT ad with the boom gate in the parking lot and some nolstagic ads of the 70's with some modern twist in simular vain to the VE ute ad(scenes of the old GTs with some flashes of the new GT/HO -think the teaser shots of the XD on ice ad.. coming to end with shot of the new GT/HO with the originals in backdrop again remember the lightning strike BA vs XW in silver fox ads).
question is IF a HO comes back where does that leave the likes of the GT-P will that be asorbed into the GT and new HO takes the throne?
HO could benifit with FI but how bout some more RPM range to go with that IMO would just lengthen the worthy stakes just a little more if you follow...
Good to see Moffat involved again....the GTHO Phase III was when I first noticed motor cars as a lad.
I doubt we will ever see Holden backing down in V8 form at the race track again when faced with well sorted GTHOs like in the early seventies....but my experience of the Ford Motor company over the years has been, that they never get seriouse unless they want somthing.
Henry Ford the II was a rev head, it was his Edict, and open cheque book policy, that Ford was to out bore and outstroke the opposition on every platue, he was there to wave the starting Flag at Le Mans back in 66, he was there when the XP Falcon began the 70,000 mile endurance run here in Australia, and ultimatly we have him to thank for the original GTHOs... but he aint running the show no more.
The Question I have is....what does William Clay Ford jnr, have to get seriouse about in Australia....?
I am already aware that the current Ford Australia head honcho...has a dream about Ford Australia one day re introducing the GTHO.
Yet if they do, will they ever be the cars they could have been, if Henry Ford the II was still in the saddle at Ford.
I guess only time will tell......
